28 Week Check Up

So I had my 28 week check up this week.  I drank the glucola (not as bad as I was expecting), and passed my gestational diabetes test.  The doctor did discover I am slightly anemic, and I am now taking an iron supplement in addition to my prenatal vitamin and fish oil supplements.  I had another ultrasound, to check the status of my placenta and make sure the little one is growing satisfactorily.  It was so fun to see the little guy on the screen again!  Unfortunately, he did not want his picture taken.  He kept his hand in front of his face the entire time.  The ultrasound technician gave us some pictures, but non are very good.
The best news is that my placenta has migrated up, and there is no longer a threat of a c-section!!  I am incredibly happy about this!!  Especially since John and I hired a doula on the 13th.  Her name is Hollie Silberhorn.  She is great.  We both get along with her famously, and agree with her ideas on birthing and breastfeeding.  We (me probably more so than John), are very excited to work with her.  We will meet with her for 4 prenatal visits, learning about the specifics of the birthing process, techniques to help us both through labor, as well as education on breastfeeding.  She does give us homework after each meeting (which John wasn't too happy about), but I think it will help us be informed as we venture into this territory that is so foreign to us.
Since my last post, we have nearly finished the closet.  We installed the shelving and rods, which were much easier than expected.  We can now proudly say we are using our new closet, and LOVING it!  The doors are not up yet, as we still need to paint our bedroom.  We have purchased the paint and will have our room painted by the end of this coming weekend!!  Once our room is done, it's on to the nursery!!
The crib bedding has arrived, and I found a fantastic alphabet painting to hang above the crib.  We will be buying the furniture (well, ordering it, as my parents will be buying the crib, and John's parents the dresser/changing table) once we have painted the nursery.
After the doctors appointment, John agreed to go to the diaper store to look into cloth diapers.  I have a few friends who use cloth diapers, and I was wanting to try them.  They are MUCH more economical than disposables, and keep many, MANY diapers out of the landfills!  Not to mention, we can use them again for our second child.  John was not entirely convinced, thinking it would be too much extra work.  The sales associate was very helpful in explaining the pros/cons of cloth diapers and the different types available.  When all was said and done, John agreed to using the cloth diapers!!  Needless to say I'm ecstatic!  Not only will we be saving TONS of money, we will also be creating less garbage, and supporting a local St. Louis business.  The diapers are made and sold by a local company, Cotton Babies.
I think that's all the updating for now.  Stay tuned in the next week or so for the big "Closet Reno" post!
For now, here are some pics of the baby and I as we continue to grow:
