Closet Renovation

It's been a long time coming (4 1/2 years to be exact), but we have FINALLY expanded the closet in our bedroom.  I remember touring the house with our realtor, and John and I both mentioning how we could expand the closet to accommodate both our clothes.  But, because neither of us are terribly handy, the project never got done.  That is... until little Posey Jr. came into the picture.  We knew we needed to make the closet bigger, so the little one could have a closet to himself (instead of sharing with daddy).

Definitely not enough space for Mommy and Daddy's clothes!

So.... we roped Grandpa Eric and Uncle Ryan into helping with the closet project.  They are both MUCH more handy than John or I, ensuring we could get the project done RIGHT the FIRST time.
Before Grandpa and Uncle arrived, John did most of the closet demolition.  I think this was his favorite part of the whole experience.  When Grandpa arrived, there was just a little more demo to do to ensure a quality end product.  So he, John and Ryan got to work.  It was quite interesting having the construction going on in our bedroom while we had a FULL house!  Did I forget to mention that all this work was done over Thanksgiving, when we hosted my parents (Eric and Cindy), my sister Janel (with 2 year old Brinley and 2 month old Titus), and my sister Shannon and her husband Ryan (with 5 month old Evan)?  Janel's husband Roger couldn't join us as he had recently started a new job.  My Grandma Shirley and Grandpa Ron were also around, but stayed in a hotel, as our house was bursting at the seams (and Grandpa is allergic to the kitties).
So, with all the commotion in the house, the closet project began.

First came the final bits of demolition

Then came the framing
Things would've gone A LOT faster, had we owned a more powerful drill.  The guys had to build everything using a hammer and nails.

All the tools, laid out over our bed

John had to finish the mudding, as it took too long to dry for Grandpa Eric and Uncle Ryan to help.
Once John had sanded all the walls down, I was in charge of painting the interior of the closet.  We decided to go with white, to make the closet as bright as possible.  After much debate, we decided on a type of closet organizing system.  As intimidating as it looked to assemble, it was probably the easiest part of this entire process (outside of moving our clothes in!).

 Painting

Starting to look like a closet!

Look at all that space to hang and store clothes!!  WOW!

And we still have some space to spare!

Once the closet was done, we had to repaint our bedroom.  It took us a while to decide on a paint color, but we finally did.  Painting the room was NOT as easy as painting the inside of the closet.  Poor John had to move ALL the furniture out of the room.  (Originally we had thought we could leave our bed in.) He did a GREAT job painting the ceiling and getting 2 coats on the walls.  I did all the trim work, with Em's help for the first coat.  With the walls finally painted, and the floors cleared of drop cloths, we installed the closet doors.  It was a bit tricky, but the final product is fantastic!!

Thank you to everyone who helped us get this project done!  We wouldn't have been able to do it without you!!!
Now on to the nursery....
